Privacy Policy / Information

During the development of Basilisk, we have received questions regarding the privacy characteristics of both the Basilisk browser itself and services hosted on basilisk-browser.org. This page is intended to answer those questions clearly.

We do not collect analytics, sell user data, or build user profiles. Basilisk is developed with the explicit goal of minimizing data collection and avoiding unnecessary communication with external services.

Basilisk and Basilisk-operated servers are configured to avoid logging personally identifiable information. We do not operate tracking systems or user analytics on our infrastructure.

Basilisk is not configured to be an anonymous or anti-fingerprinting browser out of the box. Users with strict privacy or anonymity requirements can configure Basilisk accordingly, but doing so requires additional research and testing based on individual threat models.

If this privacy information changes in the future, a revision history page will be created and linked here. Notices will also be posted in the Basilisk section of the Pale Moon forum.

Third-party services

Basilisk interacts with a limited number of third-party services by default. These services and their associated privacy considerations are listed below.

• Basilisk uses the IP-API service to determine approximate geographic location. Unlike some browsers, Basilisk does not use local Wi-Fi or network information for geolocation. Only the public IP address is used, and only minimal information (latitude and longitude) is requested.
  • The IP-API privacy policy can be viewed here.
  • Geolocation requests can be disabled by setting geo.enabled to false in about:config.

  • This is the add-ons site for Basilisk and is hosted by the Pale Moon project.
  • Use of this site is governed by the Pale Moon Privacy Policy.
  • If you do not accept this policy, do not install add-ons from this site.
  • You may also disable automatic add-on updates via the Add-ons Manager.


• Pale Moon Sync
  • Basilisk includes optional support for the Pale Moon Sync service.
  • Use of this service is governed by the Pale Moon Sync Privacy Policy.
  • If you do not accept this policy, do not enable Sync in Basilisk.
