Privacy Policy/Information

Throughout the development process of Basilisk we have gotten questions regarding the privacy of the Basilisk browser itself as well as services hosted on basilisk-browser.org. The purpose of this page is to answer those questions.

We don't want your data. We do not, and will not collect analytics or sell your data to anyone. For any reason. Period.

To put it in simpler terms, Basilisk and Basilisk servers do not log any data about you. All servers we host are explicitly configured not to log anything.

To be clear - Basilisk is not configured to be a private or anonymous web browser out of the box. If absolute privacy is something you desire it can be done with Basilisk, but it will take some research and testing on your end to reach that point.

Going forward, if there are any updates to this privacy policy we will create a privacy policy history page and link it here. There will also be a notice on the Basilisk section of the Pale Moon Forums.

Third Party Services

There are third-party services that Basilisk is configured out of the box to interact with. Here is a list of those services and information regarding their privacy policies:

• Basilisk uses a privacy-conscious service called IP-API to determine where you are located, and contrary to Firefox does not use any local information like WiFi or local network details (which can contain private information) to determine your location on the globe. Only public information (your public IP address) is used, and only minimal information (latitude and longitude) is requested to be transmitted.
• The IP-API privacy policy can be viewed here.
• Requests to IP-API can be disabled by setting geo.enabled to false in about:config.


• addons.basilisk-browser.org
• This is the addons site for Basilisk. This site is hosted by the Pale Moon team.
• If you choose to use the Basilisk Addons Site, your usage will be governed by the Pale Moon Privacy Policy.
• If you do not accept the privacy policy of the Basilisk Addons site, do not install addons from that site. You may also wish to disable the "Update Add-Ons Automatically" option in the Add-Ons Manager.
• We recommend disabling auto-updates on a per-addon basis rather than globally.


• Pale Moon Sync
  • Moonchild has given us permission to include support for Pale Moon Sync in Basilisk. (thank you!)
  • If you choose to use the Pale Moon Sync service, your usage will be governed by the Pale Moon Sync Privacy Policy.
  • If you do not accept the privacy policy of the Pale Moon Sync Service, simply do not use the sync functionality in Basilisk.
